Kashawn Taylor is a formerly incarcerated writer and educator based in CT. He holds a BA in English and Psychology and an MA in English and Creative Writing. Before his incarceration, he established a strong academic foundation, which he continued to build upon during his time in prison. His "prison writing" has been featured in several publications, including Prison Journalism Project, The Blotter Magazine, Minutes Before Six, Evening Street Review's DIY Prison Project, Indiana Review, Fugitives and Futurists, and by Querencia Press in its Summer 2024 anthology.
Taylor’s work has been or will be featured in such magazines and journals as Poetry, Sequestrum, The Ex-Puritan, Jelly Bucket, Bullshit Lit, Apogee Journal, and more. His collection of poetry, subhuman., was a finalist in the 2026 Next Generation Indie Book Awards, and is available from Wayfarer Books and other retailers. A collection of prose, tentatively titled Kites, is forthcoming from Whiskey Tit Books.
Taylor is teacher at Gotham Writers Workshop and is the 2026 Audience Engagement Fellow at Prison Journalism Project. In 2026, he severed as a guest judge in the poetry category of PEN America’s annual Prison Writing Awards. Additionally, he serves on the 2026-2027 advisory board of the American Prison Writing Archive.
